Singh Claims Scottish Open and Heads to The Open Championship

by Jeff Skinner

In a playoff at Castle Stuart Golf Links and starting fifteen slots behind the leader Jeev Milkha Singh came back from five off the lead at the day’s start to claim the Scottish Open.   Singh beat Francesco Molinari with a birdie on the first extra hole.  Singh had posted seventeen under early on with a brilliant 67 and had to wait for the field to finish.  Singh has a swing that only a mother could love, and only if she’s Jim Furyk’s mom.  But he managed his way around the course with a bogey free round that also punched his ticket into this week’s Open Championship.

Scotsman Marc Warren threatened to keep the trophy at home in Scotland but stumbled home shooting four over par on the last four holes.

Phil Mickelson hoped to keep his hot streak on the links going but couldn’t match his two previous rounds of 64 and 65 and carded a 74.  But this week has been a good week for Mickelson as he shot two of his best rounds in months and said he is ready to truly embrace links golf.
