Chambers Bay: Links Golf Comes to the U.S. Open

The U.S. Open is still over four months away (133 days actually) but I have already been getting my links golf fix by reading some heavy duty links related books lately.

I just finished Tom Doak’s The Anatomy of a Golf Course and started Geoff Shackelford’s Masters of the Links.  On top of that Doak’s latest The Confidential Guide to Golf Courses Volume 1 – Great Britain and Ireland just arrived in the mail so I have been knee deep in fescue, pot bunkers and gorse.

Then to top off this links overdose Robert Trent Jones II visited The Morning Dive yesterday and showcased his links masterpiece, Chambers Bay home of the ’15 U.S. Open this June.

So in between chapters I took some time to take a peek at Chambers Bay and if it plays half as good as it looks we are all in for a really special U.S. Open.

Jones and his crew transformed an old sand and gravel mine into a beautiful links course that would look at home on the coast of Ireland.

Mike Davis has once again brought the Open to a public course and it’s obvious he has a bit of a links addiction too.
