Paula Creamer Wants the LPGA at Augusta

Paula Creamer loves Augusta National and The Masters like most of us. Creamer has attended The Masters to watch her male counterparts compete on a few occasions.

And she isn’t shy about showing her fondness for Augusta and is pining for the green jackets to host a women’s tournament at Augusta National.

But she’ll have to be satisfied with watching the men once a year and getting on the course as a guest.  paula tweet

There won’t be an LPGA event at Augusta National any time soon…like in the next century.

First off let’s give August Chairman Billy Payne some credit. He is as a progressive a chairmen as there ever has been, or probably will be at Augusta.

He’s opened the membership doors to women and has brought Augusta National to places no chairman has ever comprehended. But another tournament, any tournament at Augusta is a dead issue.

He said last week that the short season and The Masters already eats up much of the October to May season. “We have a very short member season at Augusta National, it’s seven months only.  The time that we dedicate to the preparation and conduct of the tournament is already extensive. I don’t think that we would ever host another tournament here.”

If that doesn’t say it plainly enough Paula may have made the one mistake that certainly killed any chance the LPGA had of getting a week at Augusta. She asked for it.

Augusta National is so very secretive about its membership. Only about a third of its 300 member’s names are known and while many are others are eager to join there is one sure way to get crossed off the list of potential members: ask to become one.

Augusta National members ask you to become a member, you don’t ask to become a member.

I am afraid if there was any chance at all for Paula’s dream tournament it’s gone now.

Well, there’s always Shinnecock Paula, give that one a try.
