Shane Lowry Rolls to Bridgestone Win

A few weeks back if were to put your money on an Irishman to win the WGC Bridgestone Invitational chances are it would have been world No.1 Rory McIroy. Well his kick-about ankle injury may have kept him from winning but good friend and fellow Irishman Shane Lowry did his part to have an Irish champion at Firestone.

Lowry shot an fairly remarkable bogey free 66 to overtake third round leaders Jim Furyk and Justin Rose who both lowrystruggled today with matching even par 72’s.

Bubba Watson threatened to challenge for the lead but Lowry’s extraordinary ability to get up and down from seemingly anywhere on the course left him a shot clear of Watson for his first PGA Tour win.

Lowry only hit 26 of 56 fairways all week and today he was forced to attack greens by going over, under and around trees on the heavily treed historic Firestone layout.

He made some amazing recoveries with none more impressive than the eighteenth hole where he lofted his ball from the rough, through the trees (it actually nicked a branch) and onto the green where he promptly sunk the birdie to close out the win.

With his first win on American soil he earns full PGA Tour membership and a three year exemption to the tour.
