Americans Lead 4-1 at The Presidents Cup

It wasn’t pretty all the time and on some holes it was downright ugly but the U.S. Team once again surged to a strong lead after day one of the Presidents Cup.

The Americans finished the day with a 4-1 lead over the Internationals and Capt. Nick Price is once again struggling to find the right formula to keep his players in the mix.shake 2

Winning teams for the Americans in the alternate shot format were Bubba Watson & J.B. Holmes,
Rickie Fowler & Jimmy Walker, Phil Mickelson & Zach Johnson and Jordan Spieth & Dustin Johnson.

The lone win for the Internationals cane from the team of Louie Oosthuizen & Branden Grace with Louie shouldering the bulk of that victory.

The play, while impressive on some occasions was marked with plenty of chunks, whiffs, hooks, slices and some truly wild misses. The troublesome eleventh hole proved difficult for both teams and saw the International team of Danny Lee and Marc Leishman deposit three balls in that hazard. Amazingly, Spieth and Johnson won that hole despite sailing their tee ball into the water there also.

But it wasn’t all bad and the video below shows Phil Mickelson making the shot of the day as he holes out from a bunker on the thirteenth.

That may have been the shot of the day but the “shake” of the day goes to Phil as Zach as they replaced the knuckle bump and high five for a professional’s handshake to celebrate their good play.
