Charl Schwartzel Putts His Way to Victory

Charl Schwartzel won the Valspar Championship the old fashioned way, with his putter.

Somewhere a putting guru came up with this Yogism: “100% of the putts that don’t reach the hole don’t go in.”charl valspar trophy

Schwartzel, unlike any of the other contenders got his ball to the hole and sure enough a few of them found the cup. He was one of the few professionals that finally realized the greens were slow so he had to hit them harder. Sounds simple, doesn’t it.

He bombed one in from 65 feet for birdie on thirteen and then got to seven under par with a clutch birdie on seventeen from 25 feet.

Third round leader Bill Haas struggled hitting only ten of eighteen greens today and that put plenty of pressure on his putter. Down the stretch he continuously left his putts short of the hole.

The two finished tied at seven under but a wayward tee ball then a bunkered approach left Haas with bogey to Schwartzel’s par.

It is Schwartzel’s first PGA Tour win since his 2011 win at Augusta. With his win all the Masters Champions since 2011 have now won on the PGA Tour this year.

Can The Masters get any better?
