Masters Week Is Here…Finally

masters new flag logo 18Masters Week is finally upon us and this week always fuels the fires in golf fans all over the world. But as I sit here still basking in the glow of my wonderful opening round of the season this past Friday I am looking at a good three inches of fresh snow covering the Hudson Valley. Ouch, that will put a damper on my plans for another round before watching Jack and Gary hit those memorable tee shots Thursday morning.

But no golf for me translates into more time for a Master Preview and there is no shortage of fine websites to satiate our vast Masters appetite. Here’s some fun info and links to some great sites we can visit all week to get a real appreciation for all things Augusta National and The Masters Tournament…or Toooonament as those southern boys like to say.

First off, Masters.com is the creme de la creme of golf websites. Stats, history, players and stories abound here and their leaderboard is tops for sure. Start clicking on those tabs and you’ll be hooked. Be careful if you’re at work because once you’re into that site you’ll be lost for hours. Hint, click on the “More” tab as there is so much fun stuff buried there.

Of course The Golf Channel and The Golf Channel.com is loaded with Masters updates and we all can watch “Live From The Masters” on the web even if your not at home. Maybe Brandel and Frank will go at it again!

The Augusta Chronicle has the most in depth coverage of The Masters anywhere. Being a hometown paper has its advantages for sure and I can’t help but think their servers are on fire all week. Their photography alone is worth a few clicks and they have multiple, I mean multiple stories appearing all day long.

CBSSports.com is another site with a dedicated Masters section and with their inside connections to Augusta National there is plenty of good stuff there too.  Also, CBS Sports Network, channel 215 on my Optimum service is hosting “Masters on the Range” at various times this week, with the same feed on Masters.com.

We Americans tend to look at golf and sport for that matter a bit differently from our friends across the pond. But we both agree that The Masters is indeed a special major. For a Scottish/English point of view check out The Scotsman where Butch Harmon says Tiger is close but not quite there and The Guardian which has a wide variety of Masters articles. They give us the back-story of Augusta founder Cliff Roberts death who actually shot himself on his beloved Par 3 Course at Augusta National.

Golfweek.com gives us the Top 5 Storylines at The Masters with number one of course being Tiger Woods’ return to form and Phil Mickelson’s quest to top Jack Nicklaus as the oldest Masters winner.masters monday lead

Golf Digest/Golf World have been posting Masters stories for awhile and this week will see some deep coverage for sure.

Golf.com also gives us a wide variety of great Masters coverage and shows us the new merchandise pavilion which is twice the size as the old one.

If your looking for All Tiger, All the Time,,,,and have finished with The Golf Channel try ESPN.com. The top three articles are all Tiger as of now.

Geoff Shackelford.com is always filled with interesting links as Shack stays busy writing for what seems like everyone in between Golf Channel appearances.

And of course we all want to know who is going to win or really who we can make the most money on with a few well placed bets. Ladbrokes has Rory McIlroy as their favorite at 10-1 and Jordan Spieth right behind at 11-1. But Vegas Insider sees it differently with both Spieth and Tiger the favorite at 10-1. Hmm, must be the American money is heading towards a historic comeback for Woods. But if your willing to throw some cash down for a better return on your investment, Daniel Berger is 125-1 and former Masters Champion Fred Couples is at 400-1 and Freddy loves this place. Paraphrasing his best bud, Jim Nantz, at this “tradition unlike any other” he play this course at Augusta unlike any other.

Have fun, The Masters is here and we can never get enough of it.
