Great Stuff from The Open Championship

The Open Championship played out to an exciting conclusion but many fans may be disappointed that Jordan Spieth couldn’t hold onto his lead or that Tiger Woods failed to keep charging for his fifteenth major and crown his umpteenth comeback with a win. Many Rory McIlroy fans were left wanting as molinari woodshe fizzled out and those wishing for some new blood to win were frustrated as Kevin Kisner, Xander Schauffele and Kevin Chappell all shot over par to end their chances for a first major.

In the end it was left to the steadiest of players on Sunday and Francisco Molinari was the steady one when it mattered and the Open went to a deserving, honorable champion.

John Huggan of Golf World tells us that Molinari’s rise did not happen overnight.

Brandon Tucker says that Molinari “… knew it was going to be tough, I knew everyone was going to struggle a little bit and I could use it to my advantage.”

The future looks bright for Molinari with a Ryder Cup spot and all those perks that come with The Open Championship but Jessica Marksbury tells us he may have his retirement planned already. Really?

Brently Romine of Golf Week tells of Molinari’s inspiration from near Open Champion and countryman Constantino Rocca.

Christopher Clarey of the New York Times details Molinari’s final round and how he got there.

And in one of the most interesting pieces on Molinari, John Hopkins of Global Golf Post chronicles how Molinari has been working with Dave Alred who isn’t a golf instructor or swing coach but rather a performance coach who has had a great impact on the Open Champion.

And here is a list of the payouts for The Open players with Molinari pocketing a cool $1,890,000. Not bad and he gets that Claret Jug too.
