With Tiger Woods nursing his Tour Championship hangover and Justin Rose counting his millions our focus now moves to Paris and the Ryder Cup. Team USA is looking to end a twenty five year drought of winning on foreign soil last winning an away game at The Belfry in 1993.
Captain Jim Furyk has amassed a team of superstars as six of the US players rank in top ten in the world. He has even added and extra vice captain in David Duval who has been a staunch defender of Team USA in his chair as a Golf Channel analyst.
Team Europe is lead by the highly respected Thomas Bjorn who has a stacked team with four top ten players but will need to deal with five first time Ryder Cup players.
The crowds at last week’s Tour Championship will seem tame compared to the thousands that assemble to cheer on Team Europe. European crowds are known to be a bit more reserved than the continually over-served American fans but once the Ryder Cup comes to town all bets are off. It’s bound to be a wild week at Le Golf National especially on that first tee as close to seven thousand fans will be surrounding the players in what has to be one of the largest first tee assemblage in golf history.
Watching the live broadcast will require some dedication, a change to our sleeping schedule and maybe a case of Furyk’s old sponsor, 5 Hour Energy. With a six hour time difference get ready to watch some overnight and early morning golf. Hey, it’s the Ryder Cup and it’s worth it.
