Tiger Woods…Making Like Arnold Palmer

As usual Tiger Woods is the headline again this week as the PGA Tour plays The Genesis Open which benefits his foundation.  Woods just needs to walk out his door to make news and this week the world will be watching intently as he and his brethren work their way around a beloved Riviera Country Club.

Woods caught the eye of the ever on the job Karen Crouse as she details Tiger’s hook up with a celebrity with a bit less notoriety.  Crouse’s “Tiger Woods and the Blind Long Snapper: A Mutually Inspiring Reunion” brings us up close with Jake Olson, the former blind long snapper from USC who made a big splash in 2017 as he snapped for the Trojans.

His accomplishment didn’t go unnoticed by Woods who sent him a congratulatory note much like The King would do and a friendship followed.

“Like Woods, Olson grew up roughly an hour’s drive south of Riveria, in neighboring Orange County. Olson lost his left eye to a rare form of cancer when he was 10 months old, and he was playing golf and football when the disease took his right eye at age 12 — but not before Woods won the 2008 United States Open in a 19-hole playoff, a sight seared in Olson’s memory.

If Olson became an ardent fan of Woods on that Father’s Day weekend, Woods became a huge fan of Olson nine years later, when Olson snapped the ball for an extra point in U.S.C.’s 2017 season opener against Western Michigan. Two months later, Olson heard from Woods, receiving a typewritten note signed by the 14-time major winner.”
