Adam Scott Says Thanks to the USGA

Right after Adam Scott won for the second straight week at the WGC Cadillac Championship the considerate and humble Aussie wanted all those involved in the win to share in the glow of his victory.  Shortly after signing his scorecard  he sent a note to Mike Davis and somehow had me on copy.  Take a look at Adam’s “Thank you note” to Mike Davis.

Dear Mike,

I just wanted to express my sincere appreciation and thanks to you and all your fellow Blue Jackets over there at the USGA. Your decision to ban the anchored stroke while controversial at the time has really had a pleasurable effect on my golf game.

I’m not sure if you’ve been following the PGA Tour this season as I know you’re pretty busy getting Oakmont ready for the U.S. Open, but I have been having a lot of fun this season. And I think you deserve some of the credit.

When you and your pals at the R&A decided that the anchored stroke, which had been around for decades was “not really a golf stroke” I was disappointed and perplexed.

But being the positive person that I am I summoned my natural Aussie spirit and said to myself “C’mon Aussie” (you remember that cheer at Augusta don’t you Mike) and decided to embrace that old short stick again.

And you know Mike things seem to be working out with my new short putter. Since I started using it I had a T56 at The Sony, but I was busy surfing all week anyway. Then I started to get the groove of this thing that is only about half as long as my old broomstick. Since that week in Hawaii I’ve been in my own version of paradise.

I nearly won at Riviera and finished second to Bubba but the past two weeks have been pretty good. I was able to bounce back from a quadruple bogey at The Honda to win for the first time since 2014 and this week was kind of nice too.scott doral putter

As Donald Trump was choppering in to Doral I was just hoping miss that blabbering fool and sneak around that brute of a course and try and be there at the end. And you know what Mike? I just won the damn thing!

The talking heads will say it was my driving and approach shots that won this week and I did lead the field in strokes gained tee to green but my new favorite club was working pretty good too. I was 17th in strokes gained putting and you remember how poorly I was putting last year.

Believe it or not I’ve been putting so much better this season and if you can believe this Mike, I even look a little bit cooler with the short putter.

So please pass along my thanks to all the boys and girls at the USGA and the R&A for helping me find a new life in my game.

Can’t wait to see you at The Masters.

Cheers mate,

Adam Scott

P.S. Please set up those greens at Oakmont as tough as you can. I have just to tool to bring them to their knees.
