Bubba Watson Owns The Travelers

Paul Casey knew he needed to keep going low if he wanted to hold on to win the Travelers Championship. Going into Sunday’s final round Casey held a four shot lead but on a course that yields notoriously low rounds, anything near even par was trouble. After nine holes he was at even par and heading down the leaderboard. If you want to win here one thing you can’t do on the back nine at TPC River Highlands is splash a few shots in the water. Casey got wet on the thirteenth and the seventeenth and he was left barely hanging on to a tie for second.bubba trav

The player of the day was Bubba Watson who may consider a move to Connecticut seeing how much success he has had here. Watson’s eight birdie one bogey 63 was a thing of beauty as he carved shots in and out and up and down and all over this player friendly layout. His day was full of skillful shots as he looked like Bubba the Artist that had won him eleven previous PGA Tour events.

This is his third win at The Travelers and it holds a special place for him as it was here back in 2010 where he claimed his first win. A healthy Bubba who struggled last season is now in full bloom as he becomes the first three time winner on tour this season.

As Bubba’s focus goes so does his performance and this week…and this season he seems to be back to his old self of just seeing the shot and letting it fly. He did that on Sunday and it served him well.

  1. Yo, Bro. Bubba just might take up residence in the Contitution state, as you suggest. He loves this TPC River Highlands course. I think you shortchanged Bubba on his total number of wins. I’ve got him at 12 now. It would be 10 if you don’t count his 2 Masters victories as PGA Tour events. Safe travels, send me that picture.
