Our Masters Picks…

masters horzIt’s Masters Week and if your not fired up for the first and most memorable major of the year maybe it’s time to move on to Pickle Ball. So with no further ado here are the Links Life Golf prognostications for this weeks green jacket winner with some Champions Dinner suggestions thrown in. We added a new category this year: Golfer most likely to blow up and play himself out of contention on Sunday. A little mean, I know but we see it every year!

Gordo (Jordan from the Great North) likes Francesco Molinari, Tommy Fleetwood and first timer Keith Mitchell for his winners and his Dark Horse is Corey Conners, his fellow Canadian who he calls Canada’s New Mike Weir. For his dinner he likes anything served at Table 9 Food & Drink (The best restaurant in the North East) with an ice cold slurpee for dessert.

Big Dick is going old school with three former multiple Masters winners: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson. His Dark horse is an interesting pick: Eddie Pepperell (he just likes saying Pepperell). He thinks “Dustin Johnson wakes up Sunday with a four shot lead and comes apart at Amen Corner.” For dinner I am sure he would shake up the Green Jackets with his “critter free” menu washed down with some Harney and Sons Ice Tea (peach flavor).

Uncle George of St. Augustine goes with Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler and Molinari. And he expects El Tigre to breakdown on Sunday. Who would think that former Masters Champ and wunderkind Jordan Spieth could be a dark horse? But his 33rd world ranking and current play makes him G’s choice. He goes with some classic single malts for his dinner beverage and plans a “Pot Luck Champions Menu.” Fuzzy Zoeller would bring the collard greens. Sandy Lyle would march in a Haggis.  Phil would deliver a truckload of In &Out burgers. Sir Nick would offer a full English along with some bubble and squeak. You get the idea. After dinner Gary Player would make everyone do sit-ups until they puked.”

Sheriff Andy goes with Justin Rose, McIlroy and the slimmed down Brooks Koepka to win and a brilliant Dark Horse pick of Charley Hoffman who plays well at Augusta National. He too thinks DJ looses it on Sunday and from the looks of his extensive and detailed menu he is a guy that likes to eat. Appetizer: Scotch Eggs with a Dijon honey mustard. Dinner: Irish bangers and mash with peas and gravy. Dessert: Lets go tropical…Key Lime Pie with crushed macadamia nut crust and whipped vodka infused whip cream. Drinks: Jameson/Ginger with a lime, Vodka/Tom Collins/Ginger with a lemon slice, Stella Artois. Nice!!!

Lil’ Skins selects Rory, Koepka and Tiger as his favorites and an old favorite of his, Kevin Tway as his Dark Horse. And he goes against popular opinion and thinks the likable Rickie will blow up on Sunday.  His menu…so disgusting in so many ways.  “An assortment of fast food like Trump did.  Making everyone sick for the rest of the week.”

The Greek pulled himself off the course and out of the kitchen to select Rory, DJ and Justin Thomas with Spieth as his Dark Horse.  He thinks John Rahm will “lose his shit” on Sunday’s back nine and has offered the most superb menu to all his Links Life Golf buddies.   All from his five star restaurant Table 9: Crab cake and coconut shrimp appetizer, Delmonico steak with Canadian lobster tails, sauteed spinach with garlic and oil, a loaded baked potato and for dessert apple crisp with homeade cinnamon ice cream.  He’s the ultimate host!

Big Skins: My menu starts with Tito’s Vodka, followed by Edinburgh Gin finished off with a few single malts… Clynelish 14, Highland Park and maybe some Macallan. Eat a damn pimento cheese sandwich if you need more. My picks are Rory, Rory, Rory and more Rory! I so want to that kid to finally bring that Grand Slam home. Maybe Rickie is my second choice to get that major monkey off his back and Tony Finau, such a likable ankle twister to break through. Dark Horse…I going with an oldie but goodie, Ian Poulter. Sunday Meltdown is Bryson DeChambeau getting his physics and geometry confused, losing his shit and having a nervous breakdown.

Enjoy and let’s hope Sunday night we are relishing a great and exciting tournament.
